This webinar will review some of the fundamental concepts of writing successful research grants, with a particular focus on NIH grant writing. We will discuss the different parts of grants and provide tips and tricks to emphasize the strengths of your project and to avoid several common mistakes in grant-writing.

Farshid Guilak PhD
Mildred B. Simon Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Chief Scientific and Innovation Officer @Washington University, Shriners Hospitals for Children- St. Louis, and AOC

Dr. Guilak is the Mildred B. Simon Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Washington University, Director of Research for the St. Louis Shriners Hospitals for Children, and serves as the Chief Scientific and Innovation Officer for OA. His laboratory focuses on multidisciplinary approaches that combine biology and bioengineering to study arthritis, with the goal of developing new stem cell therapies or pharmacologic treatments for osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. He is the past president of the Orthopaedic Research Society and served as the Editor in Chief of the Journal of Biomechanics for the past 20 years. He has won numerous national and international awards for his research and has received the Kappa Delta Award (the highest award for orthopaedic research) 3 times. He has received 5 different awards for excellence in mentoring. This past year, he was elected in the National Academy of Engineering, the National Academy of Medicine, and the National Academy of Inventors. He is one of the top-funded investigators in the field of orthopaedics, and his laboratory has received over $50 million in research funding, with continuous NIH funding for over 26 years.
