Understanding Opioid Use in Orthopaedic Surgery

In March of 2018, the AOC leadership embarked on pursing a discussion and understanding of opioid use in Orthopaedic Surgery. This topic was of special interested to the AOC members, acknowledged through surveys and discussions from the 2017 meetings and webinars. The project was separated into four (4) main areas, in order to drill down and understand specifics to a very broad subject matter effecting all of medicine and cities in geographic locations and services by our AOC member institutions. The presentation at the AOC annual meeting in Nashville, and the enclosed materials, represent only a fraction of the entire discussions that took place by the project team, leading to a collation of articles, papers and supporting materials within this booklet.

The project team invites continued discussion and questions, and the AOC may proceed to focus this discussion into new teams and extracted materials to continue our understanding of opioid use supporting MSK services.
